Inspired By The “I” Band
Integrative “I” band is how I like to refer to this awesome stretchy band. Â Someone recently asked me to talk about the “I” band and it made me realize how passionate I am about this piece of equipment. Â What I love about it is that it is sensitive, so it gives feedback and feels alive. Â I like that a person has to control it through a conscious use of the hands. Â My primary interest has been for people to develop awareness of their core alignment/use, understanding how the breath can fill the entire body cavity when expressed fully, and how it radiates out through the extremities. Â Once these principles are introduced and understood they can be applied to all living actions: Â meditating, functional movement, sports, fitness exercises, etc.
The “I” band sensitivity allows a feedback loop to be created through the core and out the extremities. Â I learned about this quality while training with it for ballroom dancing. Â It acts as a partner while training alone. Â Most people have a difficult time identifying their core and how it relates to the breath and extremities, since it is subtle and we are habituated to a particular feel. Â When we develop this awareness, we become more effective in our fitness training, stacking of the body parts for health maintenance, and safe inner coordination for functionality.
Following are a few videos for basic exercising with the “I” band and check out Selfseeds Integrative “I” band for addressing the subtleties of the band. Â A remarkable piece of equipment and it can be carried so easily in a purse, backpack, or live in a desk drawer.
