Walking In San Francisco



Didn’t make it to the 1/2 marathon run in San Francisco, but it was fun to do the course by walking. Wonderful to walk in such a beautiful environment along the bay and across the bridge.

Having the right shoes makes a huge difference while walking for hours. First time walking in high end walking/light hiking boots and my feet are thrilled with the level of support and balance. They feel a little bit heavy in comparison, but my feet are happy feet!

Travel Challenge



The travel fitness challenge is once again in place. Walking and running will be the primary approach. Walking fast enough to create swinging arms, so the core is working. Running with enough technique to have the core and the arms working every step. Slipped in a couple of DVD’s, a few pages of notes from a fitness trainer, and select pages torn out of a fitness magazine for diversity.

Love the fitbit monitor! It goes on my clothing first thing in the morning.

With all of the walking I have been doing at work, I have wanted to get a tracker. I just started to research them, but I was given one for my birthday. Fitbit. The zip model. I have talked to Heather about creating an app for Selfseeds, so it will be a good trial run to work with recording information everyday, being accountable, and learning from my daily activity, (moving, eating, sleeping, and more). While working, walking, sitting, riding, and more straightness is very important. In the morning, stand in front of a mirror and check your alignment. Close your eyes and memorize what straightness feels like. During the course of the day, try to recreate straightness from memory and then spot check it in a mirror as you can. Straightness isn’t just physical, but it allows the energy fields in the body to run without a kink in the flow too.

Movement based around a straight spine with good posture is very different then movement based on bent or crooked posture, since inappropriate muscles are used for stabilizing, balancing, and moving.

Fitness Evaluation


Fun to share creative fitness

It has been quite a while since I have had a fitness evaluation from the gym I belong to.  They run offers every now and then, so I decided to check in on my “fitness reality.”  A detailed and intense trainer was selected.  Someone who had a strong biomechanics background and an interest in integrated fitness–fitness for enhanced living.  He put me through his various assessments (he had also obtained NASM certification for personal training and corrective exercises among other certifications) to help determine my current status and where to start on the fitness continuum.  With the new job requiring intense fitness, I wanted to examine possible weak points in my current approach. Thumbs up. I would be starting from a point most people would have as an end point. Nice to know that I am on track.  Out of curiosity and always being a student, I will invest in half a dozen sessions to gather more ideas and have feedback from a fellow enthusiast.

Pick A Job That Includes Fitness?


One way to add fitness into your lifestyle is to select a job that requires exercise while on the job. Loading UPS trucks for four plus hours in the morning is turning out to be an awesome fitness booster–not to mention the aspects of balance, weight distribution, integrated movement, flexibility, and more.

Fitness On The Road



Fitness integrated into long road trips has been more challenging than just traveling and living abroad. Walking (striding out), jogging/running, and dvd’s are still working for the consistency plan. Since I was traveling in the Northwest part of the United States, I was able to track down a couple of 24 Hour Fitness gyms in the bigger cities. Driving long distance was much easier with my recent meditation practices in India and the integration of fitness/keep moving plan.
